Irony is a kind of literary device or figure of speech where what’s intended or expected to happen typically is the opposite of what does, in fact, happen. It’s a phenomenon we experience in our lives, yet it can be oronous to precisely define.

There are different types of irony; the main kinds being verbal irony, dramatic irony, situational irony and socratic irony.
